The MLBB Women’s event at the Asian Esports Games was held from 25 to 27 November 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. Twenty national teams from countries and regions across Asia participated, making the event more diverse and competitive. Team China, Timor-Leste, Thailand, and Iran made their first appearances on the international stage.
Although Team China, a dark horse in the competition, lost in the lower bracket final against the Philippines, they still managed to secure the Bronze Medal. Speaking with 'FanHuA', one of the Chinese athletes, she shared that the Chinese team had been training and playing as a national team for only about six months before joining the AEG. It was a new experience for her and the team, and she was surprised they managed to reach this goal. They had no expectations for the competition and focused solely on doing their best. She described it as a valuable learning experience and felt fortunate that the competition allowed her team to learn from other countries, challenge themselves, and improve for the future. 'FanHuA' also expressed her happiness that esports provides a platform to exchange culture, skills, and experiences. She cherished making friends from other countries and hoped to participate in more Asian international competitions in the future.

Speaking with Hessa, the Team Manager for Saudi Arabia (KSA), she revealed that the AEG was the first Asian international competition for Team KSA. 2024 was their debut year, and they surprised themselves by topping Group C despite facing strong teams such as Cambodia and Lao PDR. They eventually advanced to the playoffs but were eliminated in the lower bracket by Team Cambodia. Hessa shared that they entered the competition with an open mind, without expecting to win, as they were aware of the dominance of Southeast Asian teams. Their primary goal was to learn, challenge themselves, and gain exposure.
Team KSA
Hessa emphasized the significance of being the only women’s team from Saudi Arabia in MLBB, highlighting how empowering this experience was for women in esports. She noted that KSA was the only Arab country participating in the women’s MLBB event at the AEG. She expressed her passion for developing more opportunities for women in esports in Saudi Arabia and hopes to recruit and nurture more talent.
The MLBB Women’s event concluded with Indonesia, the all-time champion, securing their third gold medal in international esports events in 2024. They were followed by the SEA powerhouse Philippines, with Team China becoming the first women’s MLBB team from East Asia to clinch the bronze medal.
