AESF Approves Constitution for the Introduction of Electoral General Assembly

13 MAR 25

Hong Kong, China, 13 March 2025 – The Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) successfully held its General Assembly virtually on 12 March 2025, chaired by AESF President Mr. Kenneth Fok. The Assembly brought together 73 participants, including OCA Deputy Director General Mr. Vinod Tiwari, AESF Executive Board Members, with 51 participants representing 34 AESF Member Associations.

In his welcome address, Mr. Fok reaffirmed AESF’s commitment to strengthening corporate governance, ethics, and electoral processes in response to the evolving esports landscape. AESF has proactively accelerated the implementation of its constitutional framework and election timeline.  Since its establishment in 2017 with just five founding members, AESF has grown into a thriving regional federation with 36 Member Associations, 29 of which are recognized by their respective National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and hold Full Member status, one (1) with Development Member status, and six (6) with Provisional Member status. He acknowledged the Olympic Council of Asia’s (OCA) instrumental role in esports’ historic inclusion in the Asian Games, from Jakarta 2018 to Hangzhou 2022, and the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. With a focus on unity and progress, AESF continues to drive esports’ growth in Asia.

OCA Deputy Director General Mr. Vinod Tiwari reiterated OCA’s commitment to esports development and praised AESF’s efforts in fostering good governance and transparency. Esports has been a key component of OCA’s agenda since its introduction at the 2005 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Macau, China ultimately leading to its historic inclusion as a medal event at 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Looking ahead, esports will feature prominently at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya with 11 game titles, including team-based competitions, and at the Bahrain Asian Youth Games 2025 with four game titles. OCA remains dedicated to working alongside AESF in shaping the future of esports and anticipates a successful outcome from both the General Assembly and the upcoming Electoral General Assembly.

The General Assembly proceeded with the AESF Director General, Mr. Sebastian Lau, presenting the AESF Activity Report, highlighting milestones and achievements from 2017 to 2024 to the Executive Board and Member Associations. Mr. Lau also led the discussion, supported by AESF Legal Counsels, to review the Draft Constitution, which had received feedback and recommendations from 10 Member Associations, consisting of nine (9) Full Members and one (1) Provisional Member, for necessary amendments and new proposals. Thereafter, Full Members with voting rights voted on the amendments and proposals to the Draft Constitution to ensure it reflects the interests of the majority of AESF Members. Following the votes, the General Assembly ratified the AESF Constitution, enabling the Electoral General Assembly to proceed on 6 April 2025.

The nomination window for the positions of President, Vice Presidents, and Executive Board Members opens on 13 March 2025 and closes on 19 March 2025. The campaign period will commence on 24 March 2025 and continue until the day of the Electoral General Assembly.
